Chowk Shaheedan ("Martyrs' Square") (Urdu: ےہجصک وہمہھھرمغ) is the official name of a square in central Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan. It was named in memory of Maqbool Bhat, a Kashmiri freedom fighter. Declared as a terrorist by India, he was sentenced to death for murder by the Delhi Supreme Court, and was hanged on 11 February 1984 at New Delhi. Maqbool Bhat hoisted the Kashmir Independence Flag in the square on his last public appearance before crossing the Line of Control (cease fire line) to Indian administered Kashmir. ==References==
